Introduction
Bloom UI is a collection of beautifully designed, accessible, token-driven Flutter primitives inspired by shadcn/ui. Zero runtime dependencies, 100% Flutter Impeller 60fps rendering, and complete source code ownership.
Philosophy
Flutter is one of the most powerful multi-platform UI engines in the world, but developers are often forced to choose between rigid Material defaults or heavy third-party packages that drag in dozens of conflicting transitive dependencies.
Bloom UI brings the shadcn/ui design philosophy to Flutter:
You Own the Code
Use the bloom ui add CLI to copy source files directly into your repository. Modify padding, animations, colors, or structure however you like.
Zero Runtime Dependencies
All 60+ primitives (including our full chart suite) are written using pure Flutter foundational widgets, custom painters, and animation controllers. No third-party lock-in.
Strict Design Token System
Every component adheres to a calibrated 4px spacing scale, 5-petal color palette, 8 style themes (Nova, Vega, Maia, etc.), and fluid spring physics.
Package or Copy-Paste
Want simple zero-maintenance dependency updates? Add bloom_ui from pub.dev. Want total customization? Copy components individually.
Why not a typical component package?
Typical component libraries distribute monolithic, closed packages via package managers. When you need to tweak an internal animation curve or adapt a slot for your design system, you're forced to fork the entire repository or hack around with overrides.
With Bloom UI, the code belongs to you. It lives in your lib/bloom_ui/ directory as readable, well-commented Dart files.
Accessibility & Semantics
Every component is built with accessibility as a first-class citizen:
- Flutter Semantics: Full support for TalkBack (Android) and VoiceOver (iOS) screen readers.
- Focus Trapping & Keyboard Navigation: Modals, dialogs, drawers, and menus handle Esc keys, Tab traversals, and return focus on close.
- WCAG AA Contrast Ratios: Both light and dark theme palettes exceed accessibility contrast standards.
- Touch Targets: Minimum 44x44px touch targets on mobile viewports.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Bloom UI free and open source?
Yes! Bloom UI is 100% free and licensed under MIT. You can use it in personal, open source, or enterprise commercial projects.
Does Bloom UI work on Web, macOS, Windows, and Linux?
Yes! Bloom UI runs on iOS, Android, Web (WASM & HTML renderer), macOS, Windows, and Linux with full responsive support and desktop hover/right-click menus.
How does it compare to shadcn/ui?
Bloom UI is the official Flutter counterpart to shadcn/ui. It shares the exact same primitives, naming conventions, compound slot architecture, and style presets (Nova, Vega, Maia, Lyra, etc.).
